Cello, Upright Bass, Electric Bass
Joe (He/Him) fell in love with music at a young age listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Semisonic. At the age of twelve, when given the opportunity to learn an instrument, Joe decided on cello followed later with electric and then and upright bass (now a basement full of instruments). Music became a passion that continues to grow.
Joe is a graduate Augsburg University where he studied cello with Jim Jacobson (formerly with the MN Opera), bass with Adam Linz (Fat Kid Wednesdays, The Dave King Trucking Company, Le Percheron) and composition with Carol Barnett. The combined exposure to the classical repertoire and newer forms of music fueled Joe’s understanding and enjoyment of music and sparked his curiosity.
Following graduation from Augsburg Joe studied audio production and engineering at the Institute for Production and Recording. During his time there he learned the ins and outs of audio recording and record production adding utility to his passion. A scientific understanding of sound formed a more encompassing working knowledge of music.
Since then Joe has played with the St. Cloud Symphony, the Kenwood Symphony, and several groups of his own creations including an experimental music duet and a pop-inspired solo project, Vincent van Beethoven. He has worked as an engineer on live performances, studio tracks, and works for commercial and film. Today he runs an audio mastering studio called Peachy Gnome Mastering where applies years of ear training to the task of finalizing the work of other musicians and engineers. Music and sound are central to his life.
Joe is a father of three young boys and a dog. He live in NE Minneapolis and enjoys spending time with his kids, swimming, and doing yoga.
