Fall 23 session of Band Lab is open for enrollment now!
Band Lab is a songwriting and class that meets once a week on Mondays or Tuesdays. We focus on teaching students how to collaborate, improvise, write, and rehearse music together in a small band context. It is designed for students that are looking for the next step in their creative musical development and who are interested in starting or playing in a band someday.
Students taking lessons in the the following areas can sign up: guitar, bass, keyboard/piano, vocal, horn, strings, songwriting, production
Band Lab sessions will run Sept 18th-Dec 11th and will be held weekly at Music Lab on Mondays and Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8pm for $37 per student per week. At the end of the semester the students in both bands will give a concert performing the original music they wrote and arranged together over the course of the fall and receive a video and audio recording of the performance.
Audition process:
—students will play/sing along to any recording they choose, playing their part along to the entire song
—students on piano and guitar must be able to play any of these chords along to a groove on the drum set: C, G, D, A, Em, Dm, Am, *Bm, *F, *optional
—horn and string players must improvise to a groove and chord progression using a major, minor, or pentatonic scale
—drummers must be able to play a groove and in 4/4 3/4 and 6/8 meter as well as play along with a recording
Thanks for your time, I'm looking forward to another session and all the creative possibilities that will come out of it!
