Guitar, Bass, Piano
Tim is an empathetic teacher with a love of learning and a love of teaching. He adapts his teaching style to each student's needs and interests to keep the student motivated while learning and growing as a musician.
Tim started piano at age 4 and uses it as his primary composition tool. Piano became the musical basis for an ever widening group of musical interests and skills which included: voice, world wind instruments, trumpet and french horn, darbouka, guitar, and bass guitar. He studied guitar with Billy Barnard (Count Basie/Rufus Reid/Duke Ellington) while attending U of M - Duluth, where he majored in Jazz Studies and Theory/Composition. He studied piano with Dr. Jeanne Doty. He studied composition with Dr. Tom Wegren (student of Beveridge Webster and Nadia Boulanger) and Dr. Justin Rubin. He studied Jazz and Theory privately with Paul Renz (Berklee, New England Conservatory) as well as voice and composition with Matt Culloton, composer and Artistic Director and Conductor of The Singers (formerly the Dale Warland Singers).
Tim has performed bluegrass, celtic, classical, rock, jazz, klezmer, folk, fusion, country, pop, rock, and funk. Tim composes in a variety of traditional and modern genres. His compositions include: full orchestrations, music for chamber orchestras, jazz combos, choral pieces, folk, pop, country, rock, funk, electronic, instrumental arrangements, underscoring and source music, and pieces for solo instrument and voice. He has composed music for film and commercials. When not teaching he can be found writing music, cooking, or performing around town with a wonderful variety of talented musicians.
