Piano
"Mary Traxler (they/she) started learning rock and roll songs on guitar with their dad before they learned to read. In second grade, Mary transitioned to the world of classical piano, which she pursued through high school and college. Mary graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and minors in Psychology, Religion, and Women and Gender Studies. Mary studied classical piano under the instruction of Dr. Nicholas Roth, and also pursued lessons in jazz, ecomusicology, voice, percussion, music history, and music theory.
Mary has a passion for lifelong learning. Having worked in public education teaching special education, art, math, and reading, Mary is accustomed to working with students of all ages and learning styles on a variety of learning subjects! With a sturdy background in classical piano technique, traditional music theory, essential piano repertoire, songwriting, jazz, and performance, Mary can offer a variety of piano lesson experiences based on the interests of students and families. Mary can help students of any age develop proper piano technique, rhythmic competency, finger independence, music literacy, and creative expressivity. With a passion for student-led experiential learning, Mary can help facilitate any learning process the student may be interested in! There are so many ways to learn and grow through music.
When they aren't teaching, Mary leads a project of their own on lead guitar and vocals called FruitForm, an indie punk three-piece band based out of South Minneapolis. Mary is an active member of the Minneapolis music scene, contributing piano, guitar, and vocals on a number of other projects. Mary is also a devoted farmer and has spent the past six growing seasons tending organic vegetables with small scale agriculture practices in Southern Minnesota."
