The trumpet has held a significant place in Buffy’s life since she began playing in seventh grade. At that time, she fell in love with the excitement and challenge that creating and interpreting music offers. That excitement and commitment has only grown over the years. She is currently principle trumpet in the Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra and is a founding member of the Capital City Brass Quintet.
In 2007 Buffy began studying natural trumpet, the baroque ancestor to the modern trumpet. She has studied with Martin Hodel in Northfield, Barry Baugass at the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, and Susan Williams at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg through the International Summer Academy. Buffy currently studies natural trumpet with Kris Kwapis. Buffy has played natural trumpet with the Bach Society of Minnesota, Consortium Carrisimi, and Musica Angelica of Los Angeles.
Buffy holds a Master’s in Music Education from the University of St. Thomas and has taught elementary and middle school band for over 15 years. She currently teaches band at Harambee Elementary in Roseville and is the executive administrator for the Bach Society of Minnesota. Her style of teaching acknowledges the spark in each student, beginner to advanced.
